Shadow Love
She stood on the banks of the river,
hands shielding her eyes from the sun.
She knew if she waited long enough,
he would surely come.
She stood on the banks of the river,
breath coming in gasps.
She saw him walking on the path,
with a love that would surely last.
She stood on the banks of the river,
arms thrust high in the air.
She felt her feet moving towards him,
to find he wasn't really there.
She stood on the banks of the river,
tears running down her face.
She knelt on the dusty river bank,
Determined to hold her place.
No one is left on the banks of the river,
the sun has begun to fade.
She left to discover the horizon,
and to begin her life in the shade.
